A wonderful and scarce collection of Tolkien's books, the Taiwan Editions, published in February 1972 & November 1977 by the Bookcase Shop Ltd, Taipei. Printed by permission of Allen & Unwin, The Hobbit is the 1st printings of the Second Edition, published in February 1972, The Lord of the Rings are all 1st impressions published in February 1972, while the Silmarillion, also a 1st impression, was published in November 1977. An unusual five volume hardback set, matched in size and format. None are price clipped, but only The Silmarillion has a price on the dustjacket. The top edges of the books are slightly dusty, otherwise a bright set of this classic of fantasy literature. The dustjackets all show rubbing with minor color loss to the top of the spine and edges, remarkably clean and bright colors. The tan colored cloth is clean and the gilt to the spine is clean and bright. Near Fine book in Near Fine dustjacket. The Lord of the Rings set is all in the original light tan cloth with original dustjackets. The tan cloth boards have no gilt stamping except to the spine on each book. The books are all in Near Fine condition with the dustjackets in Very Good Plus/Near Fine condition. None of the books have any writing, names, or dates, only light offsetting to the white endpapers. The dustjackets show a very small amount of rubbing, and the colors are very crisp and bright, with a slight amount of fading to the bright colors. Dustjackets are not price clipped, and none of the books have a blindstamp to the rear boards. Original maps are attached at the rear of the 3 Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion books, where the Hobbit has its maps bound into the textblock instead of as endpapers. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1977. 1st Edition, Hobbits, Lord of the Rings, Hard Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. The Silmarillion, by J.R.R. Tolkien. This is the 1st printing of the 1st US Edition published in 1977 by Houghton Mifflin. It has the 1st State point of 'Father' Giles of Ham listed in the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is in Near Fine condition, with no names, writing or marks at all. A very clean and bright dustjacket, with no fading, or tanning to the spine. Only the most minor of rubbing, mainly to the top edge and folds. No fading or soiling, the dustjacket is in Near Fine condition, and it is not price clipped. The book does not have a blind stamp, so this is a true 1st Edition, not the Book Club Edition. A wonderful copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's lifetime work containing his account of the mythology of Middle-earth, edited by his son, Christopher Tolkien. The map of Beleriand and the Lands to the North appears as a fold-out map, and is printed in black and red, no tears or extra folds noted. Maroon topstain is bright and unfaded. An extremely collectable copy, housed in a custom black leather slipcase, gilt stamped with one of Tolkien's Heraldic devices and his JRRT Monogram to the covers of black leather. Limited to a worldwide first printing of just 4,000 copies, this deluxe edition is printed in two colours and is fully bound in cloth and stamped in gold foil. Housed in a matching custom-built slipcase decorated with stunning wraparound artwork, it also features two full-colour removable posters that are unique to this edition. From the leaflet, "The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's World. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part.
