The set is in original cloth with the original dustjackets which are not priced or clipped, now in removable archival protectors. The black cloth boards feature Tolkiens original "Ring & Eye" device stamped in various colors, with matching topstain and dustjacket color on each book. The books are all in Near Fine condition, with clean bright pages, basically no faults. The matching Very Good Plus dustjackets show some minor edgewear with a small amount of rubbing to fold line areas. The colors and lettering to the spines are only slightly faded, much better than the norm. No names or writing or foxing whatsoever to the books. The book have the blindstamp on the rear boards, meaning these are the book club edition. The topstain on the books is unmarked and clean, and a bit darkened, particullarly the Fellowship. The set is housed in the original publishers slipcase with the label to the front. Original maps are attached at the rear, with no extra folds, no extra folds or tears noted.
