The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Harper Collins in 1991, the Centenary Edition three volume set housed in a custom red leather slipcase featuring the Centenary Logo on both sides of the slipcase. The books feature John Howe's Illustrations to the dustjackets. Only one printing of this lovely set was ever published. The dustjackets feature some of John Howe's most famous illustrations, with a Gold Band to the top and bottom with the runes in black. All dustjackets in Near Fine condition with minor rubbing to the gold bands, virtually no loss of color, a slight bit of darkening to some of the white areas on the front of the dustjackets, no fading to the red lettering on the spine as so often found. The red leather slipcase features the Centenary device to the front and rear panels. A very uncommon and extremely hard to find set, beautiful unmarked condition, bound in green cloth with title, author, publisher and Tolkien monogram in gold to the spines of the books. No previous owners names or markings, The Return of the King is the only dustjacket that is price clipped, all in lovely condition. Top edge of the textblock is a little dusty, otherwise no faults. An exceptional set of books, only one printing of these books were ever produced, making them quite hard to find in this lovely condition. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested.
