This box set of Trade Paperbacks consists of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published in October 1979, by Houghton Mifflin, this is the only issue of this lovely set. It consists of the 1st impression of The Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings are all 3rd impressions. One of the very few that have The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings together. The books are in Near Fine condition, no previous owners names or any other writing or marks. Maps are bound in all of the books, not as a separate fold out map or as endpapers. The only minor fault is a slight bit of fading to the top of the spine to the cream colored covers. The spines are in unopened condition with no creases or wrinkles whatsoever. The Green Signature Slipcase shows some rubbing along with loss to the edges, a neatly repaired split to one upper edge of the slipcase. Some rubbing to the panels that feature the multi-colored Ring & Eye Device along with the stylized Signature of the author. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
