The Lord of the Rings, Comprised of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by George Allen and Unwin in 1959 & 1960, these books are early impressions of the 1st UK Edition, housed in their original publishers slipcase with printed label to one panel. The Fellowship of the Ring is an 8th impression published in 1959, in its correct and original 8th impression dustjacket. The Two Towers is a 7th impression published in 1960, in its correct and original 7th impression dustjacket. The Return of the King is a 5th impression published in 1959, in its original and correct 5th impression dustjacket. All three books have their correct and original dustjackets in Near Fine condition showing some light fading to the red lettering on the spines. They show no loss to the edges or wear to the spines. The dustjackets are not price clipped, and have almost no tanning or discoloration to the spines. The books are in Near Fine condition with no offsetting or foxing to the endpapers. No previous owners names or any other writing noted. The dustjackets are in remarkable condition with no loss or edgewear. The gilt to the spines are all clean and bright, with the topstain unmarked and unfaded. Each book has it's own original foldout map tipped in at the rear, and all are in excellent condition with no tears or extra folds noted. The original Publishers slipcase is also in Near Fine condition, with a little wear to the entry corners, but no soiling. Has done its job to house and protect this wonderful set of books.
