The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Houghton Mifflin, 1965 Second Editions, 8th/7th/7th impressions issued in 1972. An exceptionally clean and bright set of this classic of fantasy literature still housed in the original publishers slipcase. The set is in original cloth with the original unpriced dustjackets, now in removable archival protectors. The black cloth boards feature Tolkien's original "Ring & Eye" device stamped in various colors, with matching topstain and dustjacket color on each book. The books are all in Near Fine condition, with their matching Very Good Plus dustjackets with minor edgewear, mostly to the edge areas, not to the spines as they were reinforced to the back side by the previous owner. No names or writing or foxing. The dustjackets show minor fading to the colors on the spine, mostly to the Fellowship of the Ring. Dustjackets are unpriced, and all have the blindstamp on the rear boards, meaning these are the book club edition. The topstain on the books is unmarked with a bit of darkening to The Fellowship, the others are clean and bright. The set is housed in the original publishers slipcase with the label to the front, still in Near Fine condition, one neatly repaired split to the top corner, no fading to the black paper. Original maps are attached at the rear, in Fine condition, with no extra folds, or tears to any of the maps. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested.
