This copy is the 1st printing of the 1st UK Edition published in 1977 by Allen & Unwin. This is the UK Export Edition, bound by William Clowes & Sons Ltd, with no price on the unclipped dustjacket. The book is in Very Good Plus condition, with no previous owners name, no other writing or marks. No bumped corners noted, nor any stains to the blue cloth, gilt bright and shiny. The edges of the textblock are lightly soiled, with the top stain a bit dusty and faded. A very clean and bright dustjacket, with no fading or tanning. Only the most minor of rubbing to the edges, a tiny bit of color loss along the top edge of the fold areas, the dustjacket is in Very Good Plus condition. A wonderful copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's lifetime work containing his account of the mythology of Middle-earth, edited by his son, Christopher Tolkien. The map of Beleriand and the Lands to the North appears as a fold-out map, and is printed in black and red, no tears or marks noted, very clean and bright. Noted points or error's: Page 330 line 4 shows a period after Feanor. Page 352 line 39 does not have an italicized "and" in 'Lord of Waters and King of the Sea'. Making this the Second State of the First Impression. An highly collectable copy, housed in a custom blue leather slipcase, gilt stamped with the JRRT Monogram, and Tolkien's Heraldic device representing Luthien Tinuviel stamped on the covers of the black leather. Limited to a worldwide first printing of just 4,000 copies, this deluxe edition is printed in two colours and is fully bound in cloth and stamped in gold foil. Housed in a matching custom-built slipcase decorated with stunning wraparound artwork, it also features two full-colour removable posters that are unique to this edition. From the leaflet, "The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's World. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part. These are housed in a double walled Custom Black Leather slipcase, featuring gilt stamped images on each side. No names or writing in any of the books. None of the books are price clipped and all are in Near Fine condition except the dustjackets of The Fellowship has a large closed tear on the lower front corner, otherwise in Near Fine condition with new mylar protectors.
