The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the last remaining pure light of Valinor." Features include a Double-sided fold-out poster which reproduces two paintings by Ted Nasmith, 'White Ships from Valinor' and 'Luthien at Tol Galen'. A large color poster which folds out to reveal the colored version of the 'Map of Belllleriand and the Lands to the North', drawn by Christopher Tolkien. The definitive version of the text specially reset for this edition, and printed in two colors on heavyweight acid-free paper, with a ribbon marker.
