The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Houghton Mifflin , 1965/1966/1966 1st Editions, 16th imp./13th imp./13th impressions. These are later printings of the 1st US Edition. A lovely set of first editions of this classic of fantasy literature. The set is housed in a custom black leather slipcase featuring Tolkien's Ring & Eye Device to the side panels and the JRRT monogram to the rear panel. The set is all original cloth with the correct original dustjackets. The dustjackets are all in Near fine/Very Good Plus condition, some toning to the back panel of the Fellowship with clean sharp colors and some darkening to the spine of The Fellowship and The Two Towers. The dustjackets shows a few minor chips and tiny bits of loss to the top of the spines and to the flap fold areas. No foxing or offsetting to the endpapers as is so often found. All the pages and edges are clean and crisp. No previous owners name in any of the books, however they all have a small Boston booksellers label to the bottom edge of the front free endpaper. The blue cloth covers and gilt to the spines and front panels are clean and bright, without and soiling or marks. The dustjackets exhibit all the correct issue points and color combinations for the books, but all three have been price clipped. The books are tight and clean without foxing or fading. Besides being a beautiful looking set, they are the last issue of the First Editions printed, making this set highly collectable. The original maps are present in all three volumes, clean and bright, no tears or extra folds noted. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
