The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien, the 1st Impression of the 2nd US Edition. They are housed in a custom leather slipcase, featuring Tolkien Ring & Eye design to one side panel, his JRRT monogram to the rear panel, and the White Tree of Gondor to the side panel. Published by Houghton Mifflin in 1967, with the date on the title page, indicating these are the 1st impressions of the 2nd US Edition, as well as stating "First Printing W" on the title page verso. An exceptionally clean and tight set of this classic of fantasy literature. The set is in original cloth with original dustjackets, showing a little rubbing to the edges of the books, with a little additional color loss to the spine of the Fellowship. The colors on the spines are a bit faded by sun exposure as is the norm. The rest of the dustjackets and books are clean and bright. The black cloth boards feature Tolkien's original "Ring & Eye" device stamped in various colors, matching the topstain, which is slightly darkened to The Fellowship & Return of the King, and partially faded on the Two Towers. The books are all in Near Fine condition with their original Very Good Plus dustjackets. No previous owners names or any writing, no foxing or offsetting in any of the books. None of the dustjackets are price clipped and all show the correct $6.00 price. The beautiful dustjackets are now housed in new archival protectors. Maps are still attached in all three books, and show no tears or misfolds, clean and bright. A lovely set, significant for the collector, being the 1st impression of the 2nd US Edition. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
