The Lord of the Rings, Comprised of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by George Allen and Unwin in 1965, these books are later impressions of the 1st UK Edition, originally published in 1954/1954/1955 respectively. The Fellowship of the Rings is a 14th impression published in 1965, in its correct Fourteenth Impression dustjacket. The rear flap, of the the dusjacket, shows the fold starting to split at the bottom of the panel, with some minor loss in the middle of the fold, minor soiling to the front panel. Minor loss to the tips of the flap folds with some light tanning to the spines, equally among the 3 dustjackets. The Two Towers is an 11th impression published in 1965, in correct Eleventh Impression dustjacket. The Return of the King is also an 11th impression published in 1965, in it's Eleventh Impression dustjacket. The dustjackets of The Two Towers and Return of the King are both in Near Fine condition showing some light rubbing but no splits or loss to the fold or spine areas. The books are in Near Fine condition with no offsetting or foxing, no previous owners name or markings to any of the books. None of the books are price clipped. The red boards on all three books are clean and bright, with the gilt on the Return of the King showing some tarnishing. The gilt to the other two books is clean and bright. Each book has it's own original foldout map tipped in at the rear, all are in excellent condition with no tears or extra folds noted. Red topstain is bright with a couple of small spots on the books, but no fading. A custom red leather slipcase, with a ribbon pull, featuring Tolkien's own Ring & Eye and The White Tree of Gondor to the side boards, and the JRRT monogram to the back. A lovely way to house and protect this lovely set of books. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested.
